Sedna Standoffs With Saturn ~ 18 Mar 2014

First, let me be the first to wish you all “Happy Aries,” or Happy Vernal Equinox. The season shift but two days away intends to inspire a refresh for us all. It’s time to dust corners, clean air filters, replace fire alarm batteries, review our goals and objectives, shake our heads clear of distractions and reset priorities.

Actually, it’s a great time to reboot the operating software of the soul. Since Saturn went direct just a little more than a fortnight ago, we’ve been dealing with Saturn in Scorpio and Sedna in Taurus holding firm in an opposition with each another.

Sedna, the prime goddess of the Arctic north, bears a tale of great intensity regarding her father. In reading a new version of the myth just today, I am struck that in this version, Sedna renders forgiveness and appeals for her estranged father to join her in her domain in the deep, dark vastness of the sea.

Saturn bears the classical themes of patriarchy, fathers, rules, discipline, compliance for the good of the whole, and regulation.

The news if filled with images of the Saturn-Sedna opposition. Russia, which extends into the arctic, exerts patriarchal controls in Crimea, while claiming that it recognizes sovereignty of the state. Restrictions and sanctions, both neatly fitting into the list of Saturn keywords, have been imposed on Crimea and Russia. While a vote was taken to establish if this coveted section of the Ukraine should join Russia, the vote was either legal or illegal, depending upon where one stands relative to the fence of political perception - diametrically opposing views are available, as are the proposed solutions offered by those of differing views.

In a very compelling story, the world waits for the truth behind the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines flight 370. At the time of take off and when the flight vanished, Sedna who was taken away by a bird man, was just a day from exact opposition to Saturn. To boot, Mercury in Aquarius in those charts squared both bodies. So will it be the depths of the seas (Sedna) who reveals the truth? Or is the truth hidden in between rocky mountain peaks in remote, desolate regions (Saturn)? The Moon occupied Gemini that day and squared Neptune. Is it any wonder that the details keep changing, reversing course, and in so doing, add fuel to conspiracy theories and speculations as to what the ultimate truth may be? One might wonder if deception and misinformation are intentionally in play?

While the world watches, riveted, life ambles by. Sedna and Saturn seek to grab the attention of all travelers in life, reminding each and everyone that the essentials of life must be addressed in a timely manner. Saturn and Sedna both come closest to the Sun in the sign of Cancer. Within both, the urgency of basic providence stands tall. Both maintain a nature to nurture. As the I-Ching notes, “care of the cow” is important... or take care of things, places and persons that take care of you.

Saturn also adds his North Node in Cancer to the “take care of life,” “deal with basics,” “operate in nominal places,” and the “secure your well being” mind sets. Truly, if one is despairing, without food or shelter, life is quite unbearable.

Saturn works with his economical views in offering aid, too. The themes of “One day at a time,” “A step at a time,” “A journey beings with the first step,” offer moderation against unrealistic expectations. Saturn reminds us that when traveling and watching mileage indicators pass, prioritize how far you’ve gone over obsessing about the distance remaining. Saturn demands that all progress be noted, and on a good day condones modest celebration.

Sedna agrees with Saturn’s dictums. Where she was raised, nature is harsh. Her father taught her the ways and means of survival. She learned the rules of sustenance and carving a home from the direst of geographic placement. Once secure with necessities, Sedna could turn to other matters.

Sedna spent a great amount of time combing her beautiful tresses, serving the agenda of the North Node of her namesake in Leo. But more, what does one ponder while preening? The essence of Leo for Sedna is one of looking beyond physical exteriors and into ones soul or the spirit of another, or the core of a matter. Her node represents the point where a strong personality and psychological confidence shift into a clear sense of soul.

In this time of the Saturn to Sedna opposition, the archetypes suggest bypassing criticism, silencing one’s inner editorial dialogue and ignoring the opinions of bitter or envious persons. Sidestep the onslaught of “no can do,” thinking so prevalent in society. Ignore any angst about looking deeper within until the light of your inner essence is what appears at the end of any long tunnels on the road of life.

A key note of importance about Sedna: She represents the ultimate responsibility for personal choices made. Sometimes her prevailing criterion comes from the point of view of what is best for the soul, instead of, “How do I make more money or move up socially?”

Take care of your life basics. Prioritize the urges of the soul and translate those yearnings into tangible goals. Outline basic and clear plans with realistic goals. You might want to write down a few silly, easily obtainable objectives to fill in the blank page of accomplished goals.

Saturn and Sedna are not the fastest planets around the Sun. The duration of Saturn’s orbit roughly coincides with the life expectancy of the Bedouin camel - a remarkable, reliable beast of burden. The journey through barren land, if paced and interspersed with rest and refreshment, is totally doable. Sedna... well she takes forever to transit the Sun... figure a handful of incarnations all investing toward ultimate soul objectives can fit into her 12,280 year period.

Should that seem daunting, give her credit for endurance and emulate her orbital commitment... her agreement to remain within her gravitationally prescribed track about the Sun. How interesting that scientists are now reporting they have confirmed gravity waves and ripples in space-time. Could they possibly be honoring Sedna and Saturn?

It is true Saturn and Sedna stare at each other from across the crowded sky, as they will do again in early November. Those paying attention will note the slightest nod of agreement and hint of a smile on the faces of those bodies in space.

And a note of precaution: Soon the cyberspace blogs will be inundated with fearful prognostications of what will come to pass in April (the 20th) as Mars opposes Uranus while Jupiter opposes Pluto. Indeed this is a volatile time and countries such as Russia, Crimea, North Korea, Syria and others will likely create overwhelming headlines. Perhaps we will learn the fate of Malaysian flight 370. Or perhaps legislators will see the need to intensify regulations (Saturn) to preserve our waterways (Sedna) from corporate (Saturn) waste products.

Still, as individuals, we must all do our part... our part is to make the best, most creatively inspired, spiritually astute thing we can out of the life in play. Maybe the way is following the rules of Saturn and Sedna up to and through the testiness the grand square offers up in just over a month.
